Our VISION: To Ensure a Pregnancy-free Adolescence

Nationally:

bullet 31% of teenage girls become pregnant before the age of twenty.
bullet Fewer than one-third of teen mothers finish high school.
bullet Two-thirds of all single mothers age 14-25 live in poverty.
Our MISSION: To accomplish our vision by raising awareness, educating youth and the community, supporting local service providers and uniting services and resources

Education and awareness can lower our numbers:

bullet Approximately 1058 teenage girls became pregnant in Montgomery, Autauga, Elmore and Lowndes Counties in 2005.
bullet Teen pregnancy costs these counties over $117 million each year.
bullet Alabama ranks among the top fifteen states in the country for the highest teen pregnancy rate.
Our GOAL: To reduce teen pregnancy in Montgomery, Autauga, Elmore and Lowndes Counties by one-third by 2010

THE GOOD NEWS: Teen Pregnancies have decreased by more than 24% since 1999!

Everyone benefits from reducing teen pregnancy:

bullet Crime rates drop.
bullet Citizens pay fewer taxes.
bullet Alcohol and and drug use among teens decreases.
bullet More teens graduate from high school and join the workforce.
bullet Infant mortality rates drop.
bullet Fewer babies are born with low birth weight.
bullet Fewer children live in poverty.
