National Day to
Prevent Teen Pregnancy
is May 4, 2011
 |
|
Our
VISION:
To Ensure a Pregnancy-free Adolescence
|
|
|
| Our
MISSION:
To accomplish our vision by raising
awareness, educating youth and the community, supporting
local service providers and uniting services and resources |
|
Education and awareness can lower our numbers:
|
 |
Approximately 1140 teenage girls became pregnant in Montgomery,
Autauga, Elmore and Lowndes Counties in 2007. |
 |
Teen pregnancy costs these counties over $117 million each year. |
 |
Alabama ranks among the top fifteen states in the country for the
highest teen pregnancy rate. |
|
|
|
Our GOAL:
To reduce teen pregnancy in
Montgomery, Autauga, Elmore and Lowndes Counties by
one-third by 2010
THE GOOD NEWS:
Teen Pregnancies have decreased by more than 24% since 1999!
|
|
Everyone benefits from reducing teen pregnancy:
|
-
Crime rates drop.
-
Citizens pay fewer taxes.
-
Alcohol and and drug use among teens decreases.
-
More teens graduate from high school and join the workforce.
-
Infant mortality rates drop.
-
Fewer babies are born with low birth weight.
-
Fewer children live in poverty.
